Dr Treschman with the Bird Identification System he initiated at Rangakarra.
‘I have a dream for a remote, robotic observatory for BGGS and this would be a first for a school in Australia. I would also like to lecture on-board adventure cruises and show people the night sky with the aid of a laser pointer.’
His love of learning extends to travel where he has visited the seven continents. ‘My favourite destination has been Antarctica followed by the Galapagos Islands with
Istanbul being my number one city.’ So what will Dr Treschman do next?
RANGAKARRA BUTTERFLY PROJECT
AUTHOR Jessica Mangos (8H)
OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS THE YEAR 8 TECHNOLOGIES CLASSES HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THE VARIETY OF BUTTERFLIES FOUND AT OUR RANGAKARRA CAMPUS. We have collated our research into a large poster of butterflies found at our Fig Tree Pocket campus. The poster will be displayed in a Butterfly Walk at Rangakarra and to help us identify species found at this campus. This project required us to research certain aspects of butterfly anatomy and their varying wingspans, Latin names and male and female varieties. After conducting our research we then
needed to digitally edit imagery of the butterflies into a template utilising our Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software skills. This project was an extension of our Year 7 and Year 8 Technologies curriculum.
