Only refled - one push of a button, and neither you nor I would have been allowed to spread our wings in this adult world! Terrible thought, isn't it? Yet it all stems from the fact that we must hurry! We must advance! As a last attempt to convince - have you ever noticed shop window;s or listened to countless advertisements? I quote, 'Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Birthday sale - Last day today! Get your bargains now!' Men and women will then anxiously rush into town, choose their needs, and hurry home - to more rush and hurry! My goodness, I'm exhausted! Why? Well, my contribution is to be in by Friday, and today is Wednesday. I must hurry ! ! - M. SYER, lVD. HAIR 5TYLE5 UN____

If an outsider - we shall say, for convenience, that he . came from Mars - visited our world, and had sufficient ·intelligence to take note of the atmosphere surrounding him, he would inevitably draw the conclusion that everybody was late for something. Why? The answer is relatively simple when you consider how rushed the world is today! Everywhere, everyone hurries! Why must we hurry? Read the paper, listen to the news- and find out! Men are advancing so quickly now - in science, in- dustry, medicine - any field - that, should you relax even momentarily, you would be completely outmoded! I often wonder if it is absolutely necessary to advance so quickly. Leading authorities deem it essential. Why must men risk their lives being launched into orbit? Why is it necessary to reach the moon ? Often, you read that, in time, the earth will not be able to support its enormous population! Perhaps it is an excellent reason. Perhaps, one day, we really will be forced to be moon dwellers. Btill, it does not alter the fact that there is always a feeling an· unsettled tension and the necessity to hurry, in the air. Do women need those fully automatic washing machines that are so low in price? Is it absolutely impossible to go without them? Surely a little physical exercise never did anyone any harm! Again, why do we need hovercraft buses? Even if our buses are old, they carry out their task quite adequately. It's a good thing cars are becoming smaller. Imagine the result, if they had continued to increase in length, as they have been for years! Countless dozens of things are being improved or invented! Compare today's most modern aeroplane or bomber, with the first of yesterday. Notice any difference?· Of course you do! It is exactly the same with warships, too. Naturally we must take precautions against war, but doesn't all this perpetual preparation build up fearful expect- ation and tension? This is the space-age, you say! Yes, but while we are exploring space, we are probing into such dangerous areas as immediate destruction. 34
