Study Tours Latin and the Roman World Study Tour

During the Easter Holidays, a small group of Latin and Ancient History students had the incredible opportunity to travel across Italy as part of the Latin and Ancient World Study Tour. From Venice to Ravenna, Florence, Sorrento—along with the nearby archaeological sites of Herculaneum, Pompeii, and Paestum—and of course, Rome, our journey was truly unforgettable. We explored stunning

churches, and visited many museums showcasing Renaissance masterpieces, Ancient Roman artefacts, and Latin inscriptions. Another highlight, was the chance to visit an array of breathtaking archaeological sites; not to mention the delicious food. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in history; to vividly experience what we have loved learning about in the classroom for years and enriched our understanding for future studies. We are deeply grateful to the teachers who made this trip possible. Dr Paula Johnson's expertise, insight, and enthusiasm were invaluable and her work in assembling readings and curating our beautiful sketchbooks was exceptional. We are also grateful to Ms Jo Genders and Mr Shane Skillen for their expert Italian language skills and unwavering dedication to our wellbeing and enjoyment; thank you all for making this experience exciting and unforgettable. Japan Study Tour

To deepen our understanding of Japanese culture and improve our language skills, 15 BGGS students were selected to participate in the 2024 Japan Study Tour from 14 June to 27 June. We started with sightseeing around Osaka; visited the massive variety shop, Don Quijote; held hedgehogs in a cozy little shop; and indulged in lots of delicious street foods. We attended Mie High School in Matsusaka, where we stayed with our host sisters for a week and attended all their classes with them. Even though some of the differences between our school shocked me—like the fact that their school finished at 4 pm, but only had one 40-minute break—we all made so many memories and enjoyed every moment of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our favourite part about Japanese high school was the cute school lunches packed by our host families! At the end of the tour, we visited Hiroshima, and paid our respects at the Atomic Dome and Memorial. A massive thank you must go to Ms Sanae Leone and Ms Renae Davis for keeping us safe during the trip, and ensuring our experience was an unforgettable one.
