White Blouse Day
On 15 May, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of White Blouse Day at Girls Grammar. White Blouse Day marks a significant day in the Service calendar in support of O’Connor’s House Charity—a Brisbane-based non-for-profit called, Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. Cherish generates funding for vital research and clinical trials for the treatment of gynaecological cancers, and advocates for awareness surrounding women’s health. As is tradition, Grammar girls removed their ties to commemorate the occasion and raise awareness of gynaecological cancers. This year’s theme focused on visibility. We really wanted to highlight the importance of accessible gynaecological healthcare for women.
To fundraise, we held a Blondie stall with the help of the Year 10 O’Connor students. The Blondie stall was a hit, and we raised $461.03 for the Cherish Foundation. In addition to fundraising, we also wanted to tackle some of the stigmas surrounding gynaecological health—we decorated the walkways with statistics about women’s health, and invited students to write positive messages to adorn the railings. The whole School came together to support Cherish and make the day a huge success. United in passion, the royal blue really did take action.
