2024 School Magazine

This year, our motto for O’Connor House was: Better together than apart, maroon octopi’s our hearts . This motto encompasses our key House goals in 2024 of unity, belonging, and spirit, which we have endeavoured, at every opportunity, to implement. One of the highlights of our year was the House Party, where girls embraced our theme of Queensland and were decked out in maroon outfits ranging from sea creatures to NRL players. This provided an opportunity for girls across grades to bond in their displays of House spirit while participating in fun games and enjoying delicious pizza. Later in the term, the girls showed their maroon colours at Interhouse Swimming Carnival, with House Groups making posters to support our amazing swimmers who represented the octopi. In Term 2, the true might of O’Connor spirit was displayed in Interhouse Choir, with every girl approaching rehearsals with enthusiasm and dedication. Our rendition of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida — that was topped off by two soloists— secured us third place overall. In 2024, we continued O’Connor’s legacy of supporting our House Charity, The Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation. Every girl baked brownies to raise money for this important foundation, which were sold on Open Day by the Year 11s with the help of our Service Captains.

This year, with the help of our Sports Captains, we established a new maroon

O'Connor initiative of O’Connor Ironwoman. This is a competition between year levels to foster passion, and create extra motivation with point rewards for attending carnivals as well as other O’Connor events held on House Assemblies. The girls embraced this initiative head-on and from the healthy competition a clear sense of community has been established between House Groups. Looking back on our maroon filled 2024, we could not be more proud of how strong the O’Connor family has grown this year, and we know that every single girl in O’Connor is well and truly a part of the maroon sisterhood. We have

cherished our time as House Captains and we will always hold the bonds we have made during our time as O’Connor sisters close to our maroon hearts. Stella Anson (12O) and
