2024 School Magazine

Our 2024 Mackay House motto— Bright in White, Bring the Might #MackayMight —was taken above and beyond by every single Mackay sister this year. The word ‘bright’ encapsulated our spirited and supportive culture, and we proved our ‘might’ by showing up to every event making Mackay the House to beat. Kicking off this year with our disco themed House Party, Mackay embraced the motto and were bright in white dressed up as disco balls, wizards, and of course, angels! Our first chance to showcase our might to the other Houses was at the Interhouse Swimming Carnival in Term 1, where we placed fourth. At Interhouse Choir, we sung our hearts out to Unwritten , where our truly angelic voices carried us to second place! We couldn’t defend last year’s Interhouse Cross Country win due to the rain, but Mackay remained mighty in Interhouse Athletics. The year couldn’t have ended on a brighter note, as our Mackay sisters jumped, threw, hurdled, and ran their way to countless victories dressed up bright in white and without a doubt bringing the might . We couldn’t be prouder of all our Mackay sisters for their spirit, teamwork, and pride which shone throughout the year. They truly embodied what it means to belong to Mackay House.

Mackay sister, Gina Savage (2012). Gina was diagnosed with melanoma at only 20 years old and dedicated her life to raising awareness about sun safety and the importance of regular skin checks. Sadly, Gina lost her long and brave fight against melanoma midway through 2023. In tribute to her inspiring legacy, Mackay united to bake our signature cupcakes for Open Day to continue to raise money. We cannot be more grateful for all the Year 12 leaders for working together to make this year the best yet! And honestly, words could never convey the love and gratitude we have for our Head of House, Ms Ruth Jans—the brightest and might-iest of them all! For the rest of our Mackay sisters, whilst we say goodbye to 2024, the ‘rest is still unwritten’ for Mackay House, and we know that every Mackay angel will continue to foster the spirit and love that truly defines Mackay House!
