My Ephemeral Friend

Elisia Lee (10G)

Each year I await her with bated breath for the familiarity of her sweet scent

I know this three-month paradise will soon end And though I do not ever wish to part I wave goodbye to my ephemeral friend I listen to the last echoes of her blissful laugh I listen to her fleeting feet As she flees

Her melodic chirps in treble clef Her entry is like a celestial event A cosmic wonder

Apparelled in bluebells and forget-me-nots Sunkissed lips Eyes like sky blue polka dots Plump little fingertips That tenderly tickle my feet My bubbling laugh notes to her vibrant symphony Her strawberry-blonde curls glimmer under the sunshine Like pink salt crystals from the Himalayas It’s just like the old times Dancing around the lilac azaleas We dip our fingers in the trickling stream It’s like a lucid dream

But Spring will return And I will be here waiting for her Like I always do
