STUDY BUDDIES Study Buddies is an exciting Service program coordinated by Mrs Quinn, Ms Walsh, and Ms Kildey, that involves Year 7, 8 and 11 students. The goal of the program is to provide Year 7 and 8 girls with the opportunity to learn from Year 11s. The older students help the younger girls settle into Girls Grammar, create good study habits, and of course, create a connection with an older student. For the Year 11s it is a great opportunity to be a mentor, to take on a leadership role, and to spread knowledge and passion about BGGS. It is a truly special experience, as it is common that the Year 11 buddies participated in the program themselves when they were in Year 7 and remember what it was like to be new to the School. We would like to thank the Year 11s who participated this year, our coordinators, who do an amazing job, and, of course, the Year 7 and 8 students. Every Monday afternoon, we make our way to Brisbane Central State School (BCSS) where we read for 45 minutes with students from Prep to Year 2. Each student is paired with a designated buddy whom they visit weekly, allowing for strong and meaningful relationships to be built. It is a very rewarding and valuable experience to see the children progress as their reading improves over the year. We practiced our communication skills, patience, and commitment. Overall, it was heart-warming to see how well everyone participated and worked with the younger children, and to see their excitement and smiling faces greet us each week, eager to learn. A big thanks to our amazing coordinators Ms Mungomery and Ms Roche who worked hard each week to organise the Club. A special thanks must also go to Ms Gawne and Ms Kelly from BCSS who supervised the program. Mathilde Wernham (12G) and Alyse Steward (12E)
LIBRARY ANGELS Library Angels is a School Library Service opportunity where girls help shelving returned books and other jobs, such as weeding through old books. It’s a great way to take a break from our busy school routines. Every girl involved in this Service group does one roster each week, interacting with our friendly librarians who are always happy to help. Not only can the girls learn different organisational skills, but they are also able to make new friends from other year levels as they are paired with another student. Sunnie Lin (10M)
