Haloed teacups signal your presence with a soft clink, gold rims flicker your welcome in the soft morning rays Honey sparkles like distant stars in the sea of warm tea, a rich syrupy sweetness lingers on the tongue I dream of oolong, of fierce summer mornings, and of you You wither me, oxidised to notes of sweet pear and osmanthus that grace the lips A euphony of flavour in a single sip Your warmth an embrace of the heart that weaves and traces in careful patterns of sentiment I dream of gyokuro, of shaded autumn afternoons, and of you A reminiscent sweetness reveals flickers of your voice, pearl dew holds your reflection In a pool of green hues, leaves swerve and dip till your outline emerges You dance in whisps of steam and twirl into ripples and wavelets of fragrance I dream of Japanese sencha, of curled koi, of ying and yang, of you and me Your name echoes in lush blends, your lemon bitter words soothe my shivered heart with inflections of ginger and eucalypt In the polished mirror of a silver spoon lies your gaze, distorted as it blends into currents When the soft glow of morning light tears me to reality with a rip of the heartstrings, I dream of you still An empty cup, a stained rim, leaves your signature.
