MATHEMATICS
YEAR 9 MATHEMATICS
Y ear 9 Mathematics has opened our eyes to new and diverse concepts. From simple interest to the volume of a sector, we have developed the ability to use a variety of methods to solve challenging problems. Our teachers have continuously guided our learning by providing valuable advice and suggestions on appropriate study habits, along with the most effective ways to solve problems. BGGS has also encouraged us to extend our mathematical capabilities by participating in co-curriculum mathematics competitions, such as Mathapatta and the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC). Our favourite unit this year has been simultaneous equations, which has enabled us to solve real life problems with two unknown variables, requiring the application of two equations. Amy Guo (9L) and Natasha Miric (9O)
YEAR 10 MATHEMATICAL METHODS
Y ear 10 Mathematical Methods has shown me that I am capable of solving complex problems. It has given me a glimpse into the workload for Years 11 and 12 and convinced me to keep trying. It does not matter if you get a question wrong, once you understand why you will be able to do it next time. My knowledge has been vastly extended and I feel confident that I will be able to handle Mathematical Methods next year. I have enjoyed learning how to apply my knowledge in practical situations. Kirra Van Nispen (10H)
YEAR 11 GENERAL MATHEMATICS
Y e ar 11 General Mathematics has something for everyone. We have found ourselves absorbing vital, real-world knowledge that will most certainly be used beyond the white picket fence. The practicality of the subject is key to its appeal—learning about budgeting has been a particular highlight. The General Mathematics classroom has been a supportive learning environment and we have thoroughly enjoyed our introduction to the new senior syllabus. Clare Fitzpatrick (11O)
A lthough General Mathematics is sometimes difficult, it has been an exciting and enjoyable experience this year. We have had so many fun lessons and interesting class discussions, we find ourselves looking forward to Mathematics on our timetable. Grace Kelley (11H)
YEAR 11 MATHEMATICAL METHODS
W hile this subject was no piece of pi , it has definitely been a worthwhile experience. Expanding on what we had learned in previous years, Mathematical Methods has solidified and extended our knowledge of a diverse range of mathematical concepts and topics. After starting the year off with a unit on arithmetic and geometric sequences, we revised our knowledge of quadratics and soon got started on our PSMT. We have learned how to graph many different types of functions and discovered a range of new concepts this year and the knowledge we have gained will be built on even further in Year 12. Samantha Atherton (11L), Laura Mahon (11G) and Emily Nilsen (11M)
