ANZAC DAY

I n the lead up to ANZAC Day, Service Captains, Gia Cayas (12G) and Eva Seet (12B) visited ANZAC Square War Memorial and Parkland to lay a wreath on behalf of the School. It was a uniquely quiet and calm morning in the city and the brilliant sunshine allowed for some lovely moments of reflection. For 2020 ANZAC Day commemorations, Grammar girls were encouraged to take part in the ‘Light up the Dawn’ movement and ‘Music for Mateship’ with their neighbours on Saturday 25 April. In a special ANZAC Day video presentation, Abigail Lui (12O) delivered the address to the School, reflecting on her tour with Birrilee Voices to Villers-Bretonneux, France, in 2019. In this same presentation, Isabella Peters (10E) performed the Last Post and Rouse , and Annabelle Khoo (12W), Erika Thompson (12W) and Abigail Lui (12O) sang In Flanders Fields . Each part of this video performance was recorded separately, with the girls speaking, singing and playing independently from home.

STUDY BUDDIES

B eing a part of the Study Buddies group this year has been a really valuable experience for all Year 7, 8 and 11 students involved. The Program has enabled the Year 7 and 8 girls to always have a friendly face to turn to for help, and has provided the Year 11 students with a taste of leadership before their final year. The Study Buddies Program pairs a Year 11 student with a girl in Year 7 or 8 to help them adjust to secondary school. Throughout remote learning, the study buddy girls persevered as they continued to connect remotely via FaceTime, calls, texts, emails, and other forms of communication. All year, the Year 11 girls checked in on their buddies, and were always there to assist the younger students by providing study tips, fixing technical issues, answering maths questions or just being there as a friend. As student leaders, we have enjoyed being the correspondents between students and teachers. It has also been wonderful to see everyone, especially the younger girls grow and develop a deep and genuine relationship with their study buddies. We encourage Year 7 and 8 2021 students to sign up for the Program and Year 11 girls to volunteer as it has been a truly rewarding

experience for every girl in the Study Buddies Program. Samantha Atherton (11L) and Hannah Rutter (11W) STUDY BUDDIES STUDENT LEADERS
