2020 School Magazine
Merle Weaver was a teacher at Girls Grammar on three different occasions, and very kindly made a bequest to the School for both the Junior and Senior competitions. Ms Weaver was a passionate advocate of girls’ education and, encouraged young women to be independent, autonomous and empowered by their ability to speak to an audience. For 2020, we chose a prompt that students were already somewhat familiar with: Unprecedented Times. While most recently used in a largely pejorative manner regarding the challenges surrounding COVID-19, our speakers instead focused on the unique, the original, and the extraordinary aspects of our current society, and truly inspired all who had the pleasure of listening.
