QUEENSLAND ASSOCIATION OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS PROBLEM SOLVING COMPETITION
O n Saturday 14 March (Pi Day) students from Years 7 to 12 travelled to The University of Queensland to participate in the two-hour Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT) Problem-Solving Competition. There was a range of challenges in the form of five problems that made participants think outside their usual classroom learning to utilise math in a completely different way. It was an opportunity not to be missed by mathematicians wanting to ameliorate their math skills and broaden their knowledge with out-of-the-norm application of mathematics. Congratulations to Samantha Tang (11L) who placed third overall. Jeanie Ha (10H) and Remi Hirayama (10L)
QUEENSLAND ASSOCIATION OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS QUIZ
T he annual Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers (QAMT) Quiz for Year 7 and 8 students was held on Wednesday 29 July. Thirty- three BGGS students participated in the event, tackling five rounds of questions which challenged them on estimation, speed, individual problems, general knowledge and problem-solving. The Quiz usually calls for just eight students from each school, but in response to the pandemic the event was held in a different format this year and a much larger group of students was able to participate. All girls competing on the day did their best and thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Amelia Dudgeon (7H) and Allie Na (7H)
