2020 Annual Review

been at Girls Grammar, but for what you are doing today in shaping the young women who will be standing in our position in years to come. You have all played such a significant role in our education and we will never be able to thank you enough for your tireless work and passion for teaching, especially this year. For the past six years, we have been so fortunate to be a part of a community that has consistently supported us and encouraged us to learn and live with curiosity, confidence, and integrity. The responsibility that comes with being a Grammar girl is one that requires us to be thoughtful, self-aware, and global citizens. Our time at BGGS has guided us as individuals, shaped our morals, and imbued us with courage. This courage has enabled us to walk out of the gates at the end of our six years, feeling proud, empowered, and ready to take on the world. So, as we approach the end of a major milestone in our lives, we would like to give our greatest thanks to the girls who helped us make this year one we will never forget. To all girls, we thank you for your ongoing support, enthusiasm and ardor. Your willingness to be involved and contribute to the School’s incredible culture not only made our task as Head Girls far less demanding, but truly motivated us to give you our all. To our Year 12s, we would like to give our greatest thanks to you for helping us make this year one we will never forget. After Valedictory last night we are well and truly on our way to graduating. It’s so strange to think that in about 20 hours we will be partaking in the ceremonial walk up Gehrmann Lane. There will be tears of sadness and joy, but we all know how well we are prepared for the transition from being Grammar girls to Grammar women. To our Student Council, we thank you for your unwavering enthusiasm, consistent creativity, and commitment to create palpable change within the School. You were the best support system we could have asked for, and we deeply appreciate your tireless efforts throughout the year. In celebrating 2020, our school, and everyone that has made the year so unforgettable, the Year 12 Cohort vowed to recreate the 2010 School Spirit Video. After many hours of planning, dancing, and creating, we are so excited to share our final video with all of you. One of the backing song lyrics says ‘making my dreams come true’, and today, as we celebrate a school that has genuinely made our dreams come true, we wish all girls every success as they take the transformative and memorable journey through Girls Grammar. Girls, never forget that in 2020, it was me and you, but to forever be the glue that binds the blue.

teachers, and other vulnerable members of our community. Other service events such as Grammar Goes Green, White Blouse Day, Daffodil Day, Close the Gap Week, and Mental Health Awareness Week further allowed us to give back to our community. Not only did we show love for the wider community, we also continued to focus on improving sustainability at BGGS. To minimise our environmental footprint, we maintained our beehives, installed solar panels, continued using our ‘Containers-for-Change’ bins, and saw a shift to biodegradable cutlery in the tuckshop, and the use of recyclable decorations at Blue Days. When welcoming our girls back to learning on campus, we adorned the white picket fence with blue ribbons—trying our best to avoid polluting our environment with more balloons. The many sports teams, music ensembles, and school clubs were essential in developing our teamwork this year. At a school with such an encouraging and supportive environment, teamwork came naturally, whether it was managing the largest number of Year 12 supporters on record at QGSSSA Swimming or our First VIII winning Head of the River for the first time. Despite co-curricular activities changing slightly during remote learning, as a Student Council, we refused to let our teamwork dwindle. Initiatives such as the ‘Passion Series’ and ‘Creative Manifestations’ allowed us to appreciate the hidden talents of students, learn new skills, and enjoy amazing performances. The continuation of the Co-curricular Program through recorded music performances, fitness Zooms, and service opportunities further highlighted our teamwork. Ultimately, this year definitely had its many trials and tribulations, but we have faced them with what we, Grammar girls, do best: spirit; love; and teamwork. We know that as long as our Grammar sisters demonstrate these values, we are sure that in years to come, they will remember this time as enjoyable, humbling, and enriching. As we reflect on the year, we realise that every big event, initiative, and celebration within the School would not have been possible without the constant, unwavering support of our Principal, Ms Euler. As a role model who leads the School with utmost pride, passion, and dignity, she inspires us every day, always giving us the time to share our every idea, opinion, and proposal—big or small—and carefully considers them before thoughtfully giving us her feedback and perspective. In a leadership role as demanding as yours, Ms Euler, we cannot express our gratitude enough, not only for your time, but for your compassion, kindness, wisdom, and support. To every teacher at Girls Grammar, on behalf of the School, Abbey and I thank you for everything that you have done for us, not only in the six years we have
