CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES CO-CURRICULUM
ANIME A nime Club, or ‘Animaniacs’, is a cultural club that watches Anime and celebrates other aspects of Manga, Cosplay and Asian culture. This year, we enjoyed watching the series Violet Evergarden , which is about a young female ex- soldier who gets a job at a writing agency where she learns to write letters that can connect people. We also watched the comedic classic, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou. Anyone is welcome to join ‘Animaniacs’, regardless of their knowledge of Anime. We love to draw and create our own artworks and costumes inspired by our favourite Anime. Georgia Docherty (10G) and Jenny Jiang (10R) ART WALKS T his year has been a fantastic year for Brisbane Girls Grammar School Art Walks. A committed and growing group of the Girls Grammar community gathered once a term on a Saturday morning to tour a current exhibition in one of the city's outstanding art institutions. Each Art Walk was brought to life with a specially prepared talk from one of our art educators or a guest speaker. During Term 1, we toured the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA). A wide variety of contemporary works from the region offered new and familiar visions of human experience. In Term 2 we visited the Museum of Brisbane, where we toured the Brisbane Art and Design Exhibition, and enjoyed a rich array of works by contemporary artists working in Brisbane. We learned about the conceptual motivations and the processes of production. In Term 3 we enjoyed the powerful social commentary and rich painterly experience of the Quilty exhibition at GOMA. The Exhibition spanned Ben Quilty’s work to date, including self-portraits and works illustrating the rituals performed by young Australian men, the impact of colonisation, the experience of refugees and works based on his tours overseas as an official war artist in Afghanistan. For another year, art has offered a shared experience. Thank you to all who have contributed and attended. Ms Bronwyn McKean VISUAL ART TEACHER
ART WORKSHOPS T he Brisbane Girls Grammar School Art Workshops provided students with an opportunity to participate in art activities outside of the classroom. The workshops are conducted by Art Department staff and guest tutors after school once or twice a term. All students, whether they study art or not, are welcome to attend. Led by Printmaker, Ms Nancy Brown, the Term 1 workshop involved designing calico tote bags with layered printmaking. Using a combination of rolling, stencilling and stamping, unique images were created and carved, then printed in layers to create a unique bag. Administrative Assistant—Administrative Support Centre, Mrs Jenni Stafford, introduced students to embossing and stamping in Term 2. The workshop involved paper craft embossing, including techniques with stamping and diecuts. During Term 3, girls created hand-marbled designs on paper and fabric and learned about the traditional techniques used for bookbinding and textiles. The final workshop of the year was conducted by Ms Nancy Brown and involved learning new techniques with clay to create sculptural forms. Mr Donald Pincott HEAD OF VISUAL ART
