O’CONNOR OCTOPI Many hearts many minds, O’Connor House one of a kind! 2016 has been a truly unique and memorable year for O’Connor, filled with tremendous spirit, involvement and enthusiasm. Our family of octopi has unceasingly striven to strengthen the House bond through our growing ambition of unity, with each and every O’Connor girl fully immersing herself in all Interhouse and schooling events. Whether it be swimming, running, singing or cheering, the O’Connor Octopi have risen to the occasion and embraced any challenge or opportunity with their big hearts and great minds, making 2016 a year to never forget. As O’Connor House Captains this year, we were ecstatic to start the year off with our ‘Under the Sea’ themed House party. Filled with dancing, games, the crowning of Miss Junior and Senior O’Connor and the much anticipated maroon cake. The Year 7 octopi were warmly welcomed into the House ready to start their journey at BGGS.
The momentum of our energy, effort and spirit only continued to grow as Interhouse swimming, cross country and athletics quickly approached. The O’Connor girls always eager to take initiative, saw to it that we continuously had the most impressive attendance throughout all the events. At the final event on the School calendar, our O’Connor girls stepped into their childhood Disney-loving selves, to perform a crowd pleasing rendition of The Lion King’s : Circle of Life at Interhouse Choir. The girls didn’t stop there as they continued to exhibit their efforts in the kitchen in preparation for Open Day. Our renowned, mouth-watering brownies sold out once again, raising funds for the East Timor Children’s Foundation. Thanks to the dedication and organisational skills of our Year 11 and Year 7 O’Connor girls, Open Day was a huge success, showing prospective Year 7 students what O’Connor is all about. We have had such an amazing journey this year in O’Connor and hope that we have created a warm and nurturing atmosphere for all the girls in our maroon family. Our octopi efforts and dedication have hopefully increased the unity within the House and have made a memorable year for all the girls just as it has for us in 2016.
