GIBSON

NIL SINE LAGIBSON 2016 has been a huge year for Gibson. We aimed to unite the house by promoting friendship between the grades, so we created what we called Gladiator Squads. Each Squad comprised one girl from each grade and had a unique Roman name, such as Proserpina and Claudius. In these Squads, the girls completed activities — such as a get-to-know-you quiz, designing a shield and a cake decorating competition – during our Tuesday morning house assemblies. Seeing as our motto for 2016 was Nil Sine LaGibson (a.k.a. Nothing Without Gibson), we felt these Squads were perfect as they allowed stronger bonds and support to form within the house. Before we introduced the Squads, however, we initiated our newest members into Gibson and hosted a house party. At the house party we had fun performing class skits, donut bobbing, dancing, eating and dressing up in purple. There was such a positive atmosphere, and we hope everyone went away feeling excited for the upcoming year.

Gibson also showed a great amount of enthusiasm at the 2016 interhouse events. We dominated the pool at the swimming carnival, winning the lifesaving relay and displaying an amazing amount of spirit. This spirit was also seen at the cross-country and athletics carnivals, where Gibson ran, jumped and threw like never before. All of these events were hugely successful and it was wonderful to see all the girls donning their purple costumes and cheering each other on. Furthermore, our chosen house charity was the Life’s Little Treasures Foundation. This organisation supports the families of sick and premature babies, so we were honoured to donate all of the money Gibson raised to their worthy cause. We are both so incredibly proud of Gibson this year, and we congratulate the girls on all of their achievements. None of this would have been possible, however, without the tireless efforts of Mrs Boltman and the Gibson house group teachers. Without them, the house would not have functioned as smoothly as it did, so we are truly grateful to them. All in all, we had such a wonderful time leading Gibson this year. It was a truly amazing experience and we wish the 2017 Gibson House Captains the best of luck.
