BEANLAND BEARS From the first day of school, each term has been jam packed with activities and achievements for the Beanland Bears! The house party was a fantastic start to the year. It was far from pawthetic: the CLC was filled with a sea of pink tutus, feathers and bows and the entire house participated in a talent show. The Miss Beanland award for best performance went to the Year 9 Cubs who performed a rendition of ‘Run the World (Girls)’. Taking out best dressed was Year 12 who arrived donned in ‘pink ladies’ jackets bringing co-ordination and style to the next level. The Year 7 Baby Bears performed fantastically in their volleyball and maths competitions, placing second and first respectively leaving the whole house and Mumma bear, Ms Christoperson very proud! The Beanland success didn’t end there: Minna Atherton (11B) (Australian junior swimming world record holder), Isabel Nolan (11B) (National debating

champion), Louise Seet (10B) and Sofiah Beach (9B) (Qld Youth Orchestra musicians) all excelled in their fields of expertise. The Bears gave the swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals their best shot and while we didn’t claw out a win, the girls brought their biggest roars. The famous fairy floss stall, run by Year 11 on Open Day, brought customers from all over the Brisbane Girls Grammar School community. The fluffy, tasty pink floss helped raise money for Beanland’s 2016 charity Jeans for Genes and was a huge success — as always! Every Tuesday, Beanland house gathered for assembly where the bears packed in together to play music trivia, laugh in a lip- syncing battle, relax in a mindfulness session, battle it out in the ‘Bear challenge’ games, and sing with passion in the Inter-house Choir Competition. Year 11 Honey Bears took out the ‘Bear challenge’ prize and were rewarded a tasty pancake breakfast cooked by the Year 12 Care bears. It has been a rewarding, happy year for the Beanland Bears.
