DUKE OF EDINBURGH Duke of Edinburgh is an internationally recognised award, which aims to get people aged from 14-25 involved in the greater community. The program is broken up into four components: adventurous journey, service, physical recreation and skill. Throughout the duration of this year Brisbane Girls Grammar School has hosted and facilitated four adventurous journeys. The locations include Mt Barney, Marrapatta and the Connondales Range. These journeys consisted of varying durations where the girls participated in hiking through the area and were presented with a number of challenges, which tested them not only physically but also mentally. This award equips the girls with a number of skills, which helps them in all facets of life. Their social skills improve as a result with many friendships being formed while doing something they enjoy and confidence is inspired through the program. The girls who participate have the opportunity to give back to the community through being involved in volunteering and community activities, as well as growing a greater appreciation of others and the environment.
