HIRSCHFELD

2015 started off with a mighty roar for the ever vivacious Hirschfeld tigers! It was a long-awaited thrill for the entire house to welcome not only a new Year 8 cohort, but also our first ever Year 7 members. With around one third of the house being our new tiger cubs, the enthusiasm going into our early Term I house party was palpable. With this year’s motto ‘Our spirit runs deeper than the ocean’, we took an underwater theme into the house party, challenging the girls to find orange inspiration in the big blue. Special mention has to go to Madeleine Goss (11G) who stole the show in her incredibly creative orange mermaid costume to be named ‘Miss Hirschfeld 2015’. House parties are always a wonderful bonding opportunity and as usual the year level skits provided spectacular entertainment and enjoyment for everyone involved. As captains, we had a goal of fostering enthusiasm throughout the house this year. From the very beginning it was clear that the injection of new Hirschfeldians in the younger years was a fantastic boost as they brought a bright, new, enthusiastic perspective to the whole ambush HIRSCHFELD DIGS DEEP MACADA ROEBIG AND GEMMA LAWRANCE HOUSE CAPTAINS

of tigers. We kicked the year off with a host of exciting events, including a very loud and colourful team cake decorating competition. The first semester also saw the Interhouse Swimming and Cross Country carnivals come and go. We are so tremendously proud of everyone who gave it a go. Not only did we meet our goal of fifth in the swimming, we displayed the running prowess of our tigers to secure an incredible third in the cross country! These fantastic sporting opportunities also gave many of our tigers a chance to shine as individuals, with some girls truly blowing the house away with their sporting talents. With the beginning of the second semester came the annual athletics carnival at QEII stadium. All of the girls ran, jumped and threw their hearts out, achieving one of our best results for the team relays in years. The Year 7 and 8 Interhouse Debating competition went swimmingly, with the girls arguing their hearts out and the junior and senior representatives in the Merle Weaver public speaking competition both performing exceptionally well. The year was rounded out beautifully by the Interhouse Choir competition and all of Hirschfeld had the chance to relax in our final weeks together. Though we are sad to be leaving the warm embrace of Hirschfeld, we know that we aren’t truly leaving at all. Why? Because Hirschfeld isn’t a school house; it’s a family.
