2015 School Magazine
GIBSON GIBSON GLADIATORS LUCY HINCHLIFF AND NIKKI CASTRISOS HOUSE CAPTAINS 2015 has been an eventful and exciting year for the whole school, and in particular for Gibson House. This year we endeavored to unite and connect the year levels in order to create a spirited and supportive atmosphere within our House. Our motto, ‘Linking the Legion’, tied in with the introduction of our new and improved mascot the Gibson Gladiator. We started off the year by knighting the Year 7 and 8s into our biggest Gibson family ever. We enjoyed weekly house assemblies on Thursday mornings in the Gehrmann Theatre in which we bonded over a variety of games and activities, especially those in which we split the house into mixed year level groups. One of our biggest events for the year was the house party in Term I, where our Gibson Gladiators covered the pool lawn in purple and danced their hearts out. We continued traditions by playing games such as Knights, Mounts and Cavaliers as well as each house group preforming a short skit or dance.
Open Day was another central date in the Gibson calendar where we had the opportunity to meet the new and incoming Gladiators. The Year 11s did an incredible job in coordinating our yearly strawberries and ice-cream stall, with the proceeds going to our chosen house charity, Destiny’s Rescue. Our house spirit and sportsmanship were displayed throughout the interhouse competitions. We kicked off the year with Interhouse Swimming with purple caps flying down the pool, resulting in Gibson receiving a commendable fifth place. Interhouse Cross Country was also a success with each and every girl encouraging and cheering on her fellow Gibsonites regardless of whether they powerwalked or ran their way to the finish line. We demonstrated our strength and determination on athletics day when we ran, threw and jumped our way to fourth place. This year has been amazing with each and every girl showing her determination, house spirit and support. We would like to acknowledge Mrs Boltman and the house group teachers for all their help and support through the year. As House Captains, we can say that it has been an honour to lead Gibson throughout the year and we wish the future captains the best of luck.
