2015 School Magazine

TOUCH FOOTBALL REBECCA FOXCROFT (12G) AND KATHERINE LOMAS (12O), CAPTAINS This year we had an amazing touch season with our biggest squad to date of 189 girls. The season was successful and memorable due to our players’ great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and dedication. Each week, on Friday night, the Girls Grammar parents and peers supported our excited girls and cheered on competing teams through successes and challenges. All girls performed tremendously as a team, which would not have been possible without the amazing support and skills of our coaches. There were many memorable moments this season — training in the rain, learning to slide on the wet grass, and our annual easter egg hunt, with a record number of eggs thanks to our enthusiastic squad. This year we were privileged to have new lights installed at our Rangakarra fields, benefiting the girls enormously. This meant we could play three rounds of games and we are grateful to the School. Overall, the 10Bs and 8Bs placed third, and the 8B(ii) and Senior Bs placed fourth — congratulations on these results!

VOLLEYBALL ELIZABETH KONG (12E) AND TYLER GREEN (12G), CAPTAINS

The 2015 QGSSSA competition saw the return of many girls and coaches from past seasons, along with the addition of new coaches and our Year 7 and 8 players. We had some exciting results with the Year 10 team taking the premiership and the Senior As and Year 9s placing second. Every team experienced difficult games, which they all fought valiantly. This year, BGGS volleyball also had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Junior Schools Cup, Senior Schools Cup and Australian Schools Cup. These competitions are incredible opportunities for the girls to improve, and to hone their skills. It pits our girls against some of the best volleyball schools in both Australia and New Zealand, providing unforgettable experiences and relationships. A huge thanks to our amazing coordinator Ms Walsh, for being incredibly supportive, organised and dedicated, and to the players and parents, as we would not have had so many amazing opportunities and memories without you. Further thanks go to our committed coaches for all the devotion to their teams and preparing them for the games and tournaments. Overall, it has been another fantastic year of volleyball with so many unforgettable memories and friendships. Best wishes for the future seasons; we can only hope they are as fun and enjoyable as this one.

As captains this year, we were privileged to have the support of outstanding coordinators Ms Stark, Mr Laur and Ms Uhlmann, who did so much work behind the scenes. With their ongoing support, we were able to lead a fantastic squad of girls to one of our best seasons yet. To all the girls, congratulations on a successful season and for putting your personal ‘touch’ on 2015.
