continuation of the water polo season. This initial term of sport made us realise how special it is when a Year 12 girl says hello to her Year 7 swimming friends and how these small interactions have such a big impact. Cross country and artistic gymnastic seasons kicked off in Term II and fixtures included basketball, football and touch. The official naming of the Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre on Saturday 23 May was a joyful reminder of the history of sport at BGGS and how fortunate we are to have such high quality sporting grounds. The combination of winter fixtures— hockey, netball, tennis and volleyball — with the rowing, athletics and rhythmic gymnastics seasons made for a hectic Term III. With the assistance of experienced coaches and knowledgeable old girls our athletes always felt well prepared and supported going into competitions. Some of our most notable achievements happened in Term III with premierships in every sport. In Term IV, the athletics team was awarded a fantastic third place in QGSSSA, and the junior softball and badminton seasons began. As the last of the sports seasons drew to a close, every Grammar Warrior could not help but look back with fondness at the past year. The friends made on the fields, the goals accomplished on the court, the lessons learnt on the track and the boundaries pushed in training brought a smile to every girl’s face. Our thanks go to Ms Northcroft, Director of Sport for the first term of the year, Mrs Moore, Acting Director of Sport, coaches, co-ordinators and all Grammar Warriors.
The sporting experience at Girls Grammar this year has been overwhelming. With the addition of the Year 7 cohort, we saw our largest ever contingent of young sportswomen. The values of togetherness, participation and commitment informed the 2015 sports motto ‘2015 Join the Grammar Tribe’, a perfect summary of what it means to be part of the biggest co-curricular group at Girls Grammar.
Being a Grammar Warrior and Tribe Member means something different to each athlete. This reflects the School’s culture of inclusion and diversity. Girls play sport for a hundred reasons — a sense of team, healthy competition, physical benefits, seeking a great time and to make friends are some of the driving forces. This talented, diverse group of people is why sport at Girls Grammar is so successful — because everyone feels that they can participate. Term I saw the beginning of summer fixtures, including senior softball and cricket, the swimming season and the ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS TIANA HOOLE (12R) AND EMILY CHATTERTON (12H), CAPTAINS The QGSSSA Artistic Gymnastics competition was held on the 29 April at Clayfield College. This was a significant year, as we had Year 7s competing for the first time and a change in venue for training to the Bowen Hills YMCA. The girls had to wake up nice and early twice a week to attend their training days, and worked hard all season. This year at the QGSSSA competition we had the Year 7 Division 2 Team II and C grade take home their premierships. Well done girls! The Year 8 Division 2 Team II and B grade narrowly missed out, coming in second place. The final teams to compete were the As and Opens, with their competition being extremely hard, as they were up against nationally-ranked gymnasts from other schools. That did not stop them from showing off their skills and wowing the judges, coming in at fourth and fifth place respectively. It was a long day, with an early start, but everyone was enthusiastic and excited for their time to shine! Each team represented the School with great sportsmanship and smiles all round. We must congratulate all the gymnasts for their hard work throughout this season, and we hope they all continue artistic gymnastics in the years to come. A massive thank you to all the coaches for their continuous support and encouragement of the girls. Thank you also to our

Head Coach Mr Jamie Cannon, alongside Mrs Robbins, and our coordinator Mrs Kingan, for all the organisation involved, and making sure everything ran smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you. We would also like the thank Mrs Mungomery, Mrs Rees, Mrs Moore, Ms Gunn and Mrs Harvey-Short for coming out to support all the girls on the day of the competition.
Finally, we would like to say, ‘Girls, you all did the Grammar Tribe proud!’.
