QUEENSLAND ASSOCIATION OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS (QAMT) YEARS 9/10 QUIZ ABIRAMI SOMASUNDARAM (10M) AND ADELINE CHAN (10L) The QAMT problem solving competition was a very rewarding maths competition, allowing us to expand our knowledge in mathematics and problem solving. We were given two hours to solve as many of the five problems we could. All questions were of equal marks with additional marks awarded for our calculations as well as the answer. The questions covered a range of mathematical concepts, and required critical thinking. Some questions appeared difficult at first, but really had quite a simple solution. Altogether, the competition was very interesting and enjoyable and one we would like to compete in again.

After a short recess the competition went onto the relay round where pairs from the team worked on one of the twenty questions, separately. Not until a question is passed or answered correctly can the next pair begin their endeavour. The Maths Team Challenge and prior training before the commencement of the competition enriched all participants, providing knowledge of a broad range of mathematical concepts and problem solving techniques. Overall, the competition was an enthralling day filled with maths and fun! On 22 May, thirty-three students from Years 7 to 11 travelled to Indooroopilly State High School to compete in the annual Maths Team Challenge. The competition is comprised of two rounds. YEARS 7/8 QUIZ YUWEN GUO (8M)
On 10 August, Ella Henderson (7W), Matina Samios (7W), Morgan Bloomfield (8G)and I attended the QAMT Year 7 and 8 Maths Quiz at St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace. The competition, which consisted of five rounds of mathematical challenges, was a great experience for all of us. It provided us with lots more knowledge and we were extremely proud that we could spell ‘isosceles’. Though the event was nerve-racking and the competition was fierce, it was still an enjoyable afternoon.
