CAMP SENIORS During the second week of Term II, Year 8 England and three camp seniors, including Mia Blundell, Mikki Elisseos (11E) and myself, set out for a week’s camp at the Marrapatta Outdoor Education Centre near Imbil. Before we actually embarked on the camp, it was important that Mia, Mikki and I were familiar faces to the Year 8s so we often visited them during roll call, where we played games to get to know them, and to begin building their team work skills. Once at Marrapatta, the week began with an introduction to Marrapatta grounds and staff, followed by a few games of cheat, a team bonding and navigation day, and a day of campout. Campout was definitely a highlight. We walked to the site, set up our tents, played in the park, ate around a cooking circle and even participated in an old-fashion style talent contest. However, it did rain that night, so most of us slept under shelter. The next day we enjoyed Marrapatta’s delicious muffins and went canoeing. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to massive rain forecasts. As camp seniors we found the experience to be rewarding; we developed our leadership skills and formed closer and more personal relationships with the girls. We’re sure that the Year 8s also found the experience to be memorable, hilarious and perhaps even found a role model in us as seniors. The Year 8s said ‘camp was an exhilarating experience, where we learnt much independence’. JACQUELINE BARTON (11E) such a great opportunity to get to know the younger Griffith girls. It also brought back many memories from my time at camp in Year 8. It was a great chance to develop our leadership skills for Year 12 and to get to know the other seniors we went on camp with.
