OUTDOOR EDUCATION

YEAR 7 MARRAPATTA When I first got to Marrapatta I was stunned. In the midst of all the trees were the dorms. It was so much more modern then I had expected that I was breathless. The first day was pretty much getting to know the staff and unpacking. Little did I know that the next few days would be full of adventures and fun. In the morning, we went to the tinkering zone. It was a vast piece of land that was surrounded by trees. When we finished morning tea, we started building our carts. We were all immensely proud of the carts when we put them to the test. I’m glad to say that although some carts fell apart, we were all happy with the final result. We then walked to the terraces and started setting up tents. After a few hours, we were ready to start cooking dinner. We cooked our own spaghetti bolognese with fresh ingredients then topped off with Marrapatta delight waffle cones for dessert. In the morning, we all trooped back down to the cabins to pack up. Many hands made the clean-up process light and fun. When we got on the bus, I felt a bit sad to leave Marrapatta. I will certainly enjoy going back next year! EVA SEET (7B)

The moment we stepped out of the bus we felt a rush of adrenaline. We had such an amazing and wonderful experience. We learnt how to work as a team and even when things didn’t go so well we picked ourselves up and had a good laugh about it together. There was such good food and it was even more enjoyable as we got to make it ourselves. This experience has helped us to form a strong bond with our class and we had great fun. Thank you for the amazing time you gave us. HAYLEY DAVID (7E), OLIVIA HE (7E) AND ZARMINA MIAN (7E)

YEAR 8 MARRAPATTA In Term II, Year 8 Gibson took a trip to camp at Marrapatta. All four days were packed with fun and exciting activities. We did team challenge day, went on a sugar glider, camped out in a caravan park, and played many fun, team-building games! No one ever had a frown on their face and there was always something to do in your free time. One of my favourite activities on camp was the campout, where we got to camp out in tents and cook our own food. Every day you were surrounded by your friends which became like a family to you during the camp. One of the many things I learnt at camp is to approach challenging situations in a different manner and I am certain that overcoming these obstacles will assist me further in my future at Girls Grammar, on the sporting fields and in everyday life. Camp is an amazing experience! Here are a few tips in order to have the best possible time at Marrapatta: approach Team Challenge Day with creativity and logic, teamwork and cooperation, keep a positive mindset, enjoy your time at Marrapatta and don’t be afraid to take risks as it could lead to new opportunities.
