YEAR 9 SCIENCE I enjoyed the fact that all the Science units carried skills into the next unit. For example, we studied chemical equations in Chemistry and we again had to understand them in both Physics and Biology. I also enjoyed the eBooks and the activity booklets as it meant we could do our work and look at the ‘text book’ (eBook) at the same time. GRACE MITCHELL (9R) This year I have enjoyed studying with the eBooks as they are very easy to use and are easily accessed by all students very quickly. I have also enjoyed doing practicals as they demonstrate to me what happens, so instead of looking at pictures I am allowed to do it myself. RACHEL MCCREADY (9R) I really liked learning about how the world around us both inside and outside works, such as food webs, food chains and maintaining homeostasis. I also enjoyed learning about different diseases such as the types of diabetes. I liked how the eBooks were quite interactive and contained a lot of resources and activities to make my understanding easier and what we were learning clearer. LILY MACROSSAN (9W)
In 2014 all junior Science units (Years 8, 9 and 10) were presented using eBooks that students accessed from Grammarnet and copied onto their own devices. As the eBooks were on Grammarnet and on our laptops, we were able to access them easily and not forget to bring them to School. They also contained interactive games and websites for us to expand our knowledge on the topics being covered. Using eBooks has been convenient, fun and eco-friendly as we did not print them out. YEAR 10 SCIENCE
In 2014 Year 10 Science students rotated through four units: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy. In Year 10 Biology the interactive eBooks provided a new dimension to learning and assisted us in exploring and developing our understanding of unit topics. Genetics and evolution were fascinating topics the class found to be engaging and intellectually stimulating. RANITA ATCHESON (10R), STELLA BOGDANOVIC (10G), REBECCA EMMETT (10H) AND ANNABELLA ENGLISH (10B) The Year 10 Physics unit allowed us to expand our knowledge and prepare for Years 11 and 12. For the extended investigation, we selected our own topic and explored it in greater depth; this encouraged us to be more independent learners. Throughout the unit we covered many interesting topics and the unit provided us with a deeper understanding of the relevance of scientific knowledge to everyday life. SARAH MILLER (10E), MOLLY PATE (10G) AND ELIZABETH PERRIN (10H) Year 10 Chemistry was an interesting and engaging unit. The programme provided great advancement on our learning in previous years. I have always had a love of Science and Science at Brisbane Girls Grammar School has definitely fulfilled my curiosity. Just everything about Science I have enjoyed, from the pracs to the ease of using the eBooks. EMMA COMINO (8H) In Science this year, I have really enjoyed being able to do hands-on work in every unit. The practical lessons using a microscope, completing an experiment or dissecting a heart, have made the content easier to understand and helped us apply our understanding in assessment tasks. SALLY FINCH (8H) AND MARY KEYSER (8H) I liked the eBooks. I found them convenient and they helped me organise myself. In the Year 10 Astronomy unit we thoroughly enjoyed learning about outer space and the universe beyond us. This unit was unique in the way it encouraged independence and personal growth.
