SUMMER SCHOOL EMMA ANSTEY-CODD (12E), MEGAN HOLLINS (12B) AND TOKIWA ONODA (10E) The 2014 Cuskelly College of Music Summer School was an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience. The Summer School consisted of a two-week programme of musicology classes, musical theatre, jazz workshops and improvisation. The classes helped us grow as musicians, as we gained new skills in performance craft and arranging. We made many lasting friendships and had the chance to learn from internationally renowned practitioners, making the Summer School an experience we will never forget. ■

MUSIC CAMP CATHERINE CHAN (12R)

Each year, senior Music students travel up to the Watson Park Convention Centre to participate in the annual music camp. The camp is a great opportunity to hone music skills and bond with new ensemble members, culminating in a final concert on Sunday afternoon. This year, fresh off the bus on the first Friday back, music students launched straight into some challenging pieces, signalling the start of a promising year of music. The girls worked incredibly hard with around thirty hours of rehearsal across the groups. While rehearsals were quite long and intense, we did manage to sneak some fun into the weekend. We had some intense trivia, a classic game of Knights, Mounts and Cavaliers and pass the parcel. All girls found the weekend highly enjoyable and productive, kicking off what was to be a great year of music making at BGGS. ■

LIFE OF PI CLAUDIA CAMERON (12B)

As part of assessment for composing and performing, this year the Year 12 classroom music girls took on the enormous challenge of re-writing the score to the film Life of Pi . Each girl was allocated an individual scene from the film to compose, and spent two terms experimenting with a diverse range of cultural and cinematic techniques to create refined and sophisticated works. We were fortunate to work with players from external music group Topology and members of the Fusion choir, culminating in an epic live performance of the score underneath the movie. The experience was incredibly unique and enriching, and allowed the girls to push the boundaries of conventional music and assessment to produce an end product that was truly one of a kind. ■
