Creative Arts VISUAL ART GILLIAN KRAEMER (12M)
This year BGGS has been greatly involved in exploring, creating and admiring the world of Visual Art we live amongst every day. We had a great start to the Visual Art calendar kicking off with the first Art Workshop in Term I. This screen printing workshop with printmaker Nancy Brown used paper stencils for printing on fabric. We then continued the term with another workshop, this time in Digital Photography, investigating light painting techniques with Mrs Loye. We ended the term with the first Art Walk of the year, where parents, teachers, friends and students enjoyed a guided tour through the galleries in Fortitude Valley, visiting Philip Bacon, Jan Murphy and Heiser Galleries to see current exhibitions. The cultural enrichment continued in Term II with the third and fourth workshops where we explored Anime drawing techniques with David Lovegrove and ‘pop-up’ book construction with Wim de Vos. We then drew the term to a close enjoying the second Art Walk, once again at the Fortitude Valley galleries with a highlight being the Margaret Olley retrospective. Term II finished with a Year 8 Art Evening at which the younger students proudly displayed their paintings and mixed media projects, and projected their stop motion videos on the walls of the CLC. There was also a very impressive selection of entries into the edible art competition. In Term III we welcomed artist Nancy Brown back for a further art workshop in lantern-making. We celebrated the end of term with the third art walk, which took place at GOMA where we toured the Harvest exhibition, a celebration of food in art. Although the school year may end, the enrichment that comes from being involved in the arts never will. ■
