Mackay MACKAY ANGELS TAKE FLIGHT DANA BRIGHT AND GEORGINA NICHOLS, HOUSE CAPTAINS

energy and effort in Interhouse Swimming and Athletics, and although we didn’t win either competition, we are so proud that we came together as a team. We all fulfilled our responsibilities to each other by competing in our events and also by our outstanding levels of attendance. As the Mackay House Captains we feel so proud of how all the Mackay girls stepped up and displayed remarkably valiant efforts and skills across the entire year. As a new initiative this year, Mackay decided to choose Angel Flight as our House charity and we have all steadily worked on raising funds to support this worthy cause. The Open Day cupcake stall was transformed by the Year 11s into a stunning embodiment of the angelic pride that defines our House, and congratulations to the Year 8s on their Winter Wonderland-themed display. Judging from all of the happy smiling faces — not to mention the number of current and future students playing with the fake snow — we are sure 8M’s efforts this year have helped set a great tone for the start of next year’s Mackay girls. With 2014 drawing to a close, each and every Mackay girl can proudly look back on her achievements this year. As House Captains, it has been an honour for both of us to lead the House and learn what it means to be a part of the Mackay Angel Alliance. ■

Our aspiration for 2014 was to embrace the Mackay Angel Alliance motto and further strengthen the House bond. This vision was embodied by the Year 12s as they took the new Year 8 ‘baby angels’ under their wings, and by the House’s growing ambition and unity throughout the year. We began the year on a high; the Mackay girls truly went above and beyond the Grammar bond with the House party and Volleyball competition. Interhouse Cross Country became an important chance for us to prove that we are not only fun-loving girls, but that we also have grit and can ‘dig deep’. Each girl displayed a strong sense of House spirit and pushed themselves to complete the course as fast as they could, proving that Mackay House is a force with which to be reckoned.
