GALA CLAUDIA CAMERON (12B), CATHERINE CHAN (12R) AND MERINDA DIAS-JAYASINHA (12G), MUSIC CAPTAINS 2014

On 25 October, the 18th annual Gala concert After Dark was held at The University of Queensland Centre. Gala has always been the biggest and most anticipated event on the musical calendar, and After Dark did not disappoint. The girls and their conductors rehearsed tirelessly in the weeks leading up to Gala, with final preparation at rehearsals and sound checks running all day Saturday morning to ensure the programme would run smoothly.

At last, night was upon the Centre and upon entering the audience was treated to an array of decorations enhancing the night time theme. Lamp posts, lanterns and a stunning photo sheet of the skyline featuring photographs of all the Year 12s to acknowledge their final Gala greeted concert goers and performers alike. The programme, featuring Symphonic Winds, Chamber Singers, Grammar Singers, Big Band, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and Massed Choir, was a spectacular success. All groups performed a wonderful repertoire to create a truly memorable and unforgettable evening. The night was made all the more entertaining with compèring by Mr Holley and Sophia Bergman (12G). The two did a superb job of presenting the concert in a coffee shop set-up adjacent to the stage, as if the groups were performing around Brisbane over several nights.
