THE LON<^-LO^T ^^^EC^ET

BY 'LADY EMI\/IELINE PC?ITCHA, ?D'

Once we'd begun walking, I was quite glad to have Welter with me. I walked along the neat. broad paths, searching for the older graves

'You looking for someone?' said Waiter

Yes, I knew I was looking for someone. someone very dear to me. yet so distant. someone who I had never known about. .. my long-lost sister. Was I really prepared to tell Welter the truth and who I really was looking for. Waiter was one of my closest friends who I had known since childhood. He was the only person who I could really share my thoughts with. if I ever had to. I knew I could always turn to him during my bad times in life

'Yes, I mean. no. To be honest. I'm not too sure anymore, ' I said

'Einineline. I sense some hesitation. I know there's something bothering you. I've been noticing it for the past few weeks. You know I'm here for you, but I do understand if you don't want to tell me, ' said Welter

I realised that Welter knew me too well for me to lie to him. so I decided to tell him the truth

'Well, Welter, the truth is that I'm looking for my deceased long-lost sister. I heard my parents talking about the land properties and all the ownerships. when they mentioned something about them still being in the name of my sister Victoria, ' I said A heavy weight was lifted off my shoulders as Waiter finally knew who I was looking for. I knew I had to find Victoria's grave to find out whether it was true or not. or if it was simply a misunderstanding

A WAL!<' WITH WALTEl::^'

BY 'CHAP;'LOTTE ADAl\/I^;'

it was a cold winter's afternoon. I was walking through the graveyard behind the church. At first. I had wanted to be alone, but once we'd begun walking. I was quite glad to have Waiter with me. Welter was an old friend of mine. We had met at school when we were younger. He lived across the road from my family's church and we would go together. Since my parents died, I have had to sell off the land around the church to make ends meet. As we walked through the grounds. Waiter was quiet; he let me think my own thoughts. And his solid presence beside me was unexpectedly reassuring I walked along the neat, broad paths. searching for the older graves. peering at each inscription, walking back in time: 1885. .. 1843. .. 1801. .. 1779. .. The further back I went. the wilder the weeds and thistles grew, obscuring the stone crosses and crooked headstones

'You looking for someone?' said Welter

I didn't know what to say. I didn't know If I could tell him and how much

'No. ' I lied
