the Empire State Building. where we were all stunned by the magnificent view. Top of the Rock. Statue of Liberty. Wall Street. Ground Zero and of course, Times Square We were all left star struck as we stumbled across a celebrity in America. the one and only Ben Stiller. in Philadelphia. we learned o0dtes at independence Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art and spent a day exploring the Amish country and experiencing the life of a traditional Amish family. In
All it WA1 I^ I^I 11A in the June/July holidays. I. along with Etten Shield 11081. Julia Sadter 110Ml. Litty Gibson-Dougatt 11 I Rl. Lizzie BOS 11 IRl. Grace Jeremy 110El and Lauren Perry 110Bl. had the opportunity to travel to America for an arts and humanities trip. We spent time In New York, Philadelphia. Washington DC and Dallas In New York, we visited some of the most recognised art galleries and museums. including MOMA. the Guggenheim Museum. the Metropolitan Museum of Art. the Natural History Museum and many more. As well as gaining artistic knowledge. we had the privilege of viewing two Broadway shows. The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera. This was a phenomenal experience. not only for the drama enthusiasts. We visited the most iconic buildings and landmarks of New York. such as

Washington we had the wonderful experience of celebrating independence Day. where our group dressed up in the most American outfits we could find. and managed to surprise many American citizens. Spending most of our days on hop-on- hop-off buses. we visited the Lincotn Memorial. Smithsonian Museums and the fantastic Newseum. it 11AH I^ win in the June holidays we travelled to Boston. Massachusetts to participate in a week-torig teadership conference at Harvard University. On the way we spent the first night exploring New York City. visiting the top of the Rockefetter Center. the lights of Times Square and beautiful Central Park. in the morning, we boarded a train to Boston and entered the world-renowned Harvard University and met the other 181 delegates from 17 countries with whom we were to spend the next 5 days We participated in 15 hour-torig days fitted with leadership workshops. teambuitding activities including a ropes course. and sessions listening and interacting with renowned public speakers. We also participated in community service at a local primary school and engaged in an interactive workshop based on the book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens. The workshop focused on building effective habits regarding school and academic endeavours as well as within our personal lives We took a tour of Boston. visiting numerous sights such as MIT and the JFK Presidential Library as well as noted places along the Freedom Trail The evenings of the programme werejust as busy as the days. One night we had a discussion on racism and stereotyping and through the huge number of nationalities present. it was incredibly effective and generated much talk between the delegates

During the week we each developed an action plan which required us to identify an issue within our community. and work to develop a plan to benefit this cause. The varieties of plans were endless. as were the causes. The range of views and life experiences that people our age held from around the world was amazing. but realising that we were still so similar and were able to unite so closely in just one week was extraordinary The opportunity to go to Harvard. a place that has brought the world so many wonderful people and ideas. was incredibly enriching.
