The night began with a spectacular opening of Full Chorus. Big Band and Chamber Orchestra playing and singing an arrangement of W!'!kominen from Cabaret and One from A Chorus Line. A small chorus of Year 12 students began this medley which ended with a bang. This was then followed by the Chamber Orchestra directed by Mr SuitIvan who played two beautiful pieces. Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and Czardas by Monti. The contrast between the moving piece by Barber to the light-hearted gypsy folk song created a great atmosphere for the audience

Sabre Dance. which had the audience tapping its toes The next group to perform was the massed choir, consisting of singers from Years 8 to 12 from Grammar Chorus. Grammar Voices. and Grammar Chorale. Gala is one of the few occasion In which these choirs have the opportunity to combine. and their performance of the beautiful choral piece The Prayer truly showed off our choral programme. Strings Captain. and Chamber Orchestra Concert Master. Queenie Chang 112Bi added a beautiful viotIn obiigato To continue with beautiful pieces of music. the choral performance was followed by an extraordinary Piano Concerto by Edvard Grieg featuring Jacquetine ip 112Bl as the soloist accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra. This piece showed off the Schools diverse talent in music and a truly remarkable performance from Jacqueline The Symphony Orchestra then followed with a medley of songs from the Broadway musical The Phantom of the Opera which was a true crowd pleaser and excited the audience with the recognisebte tunes To end a most memorabte evening of fine music. Symphony Orchestra was joined by the Combined Choir to conclude the concert with an Unforgettable Rock Medley. This Included classic favourites from ABBA to Michaet Jackson. Next was Grammar Singers. who opened with a performance of Gloria by Vivatdi, whose rendition of such a well-known piece was wonderfulty phrased and created a unique atmosphere Grammar singers then continued with an a cappetta piece called Ngana by Stephen Leek. Grammar Singers ended with the jazz standard. A1n't Misbehavi'n'with soloist Lucinda Hinckfuss 111Hl Donl Rain On My Parade. originally performed by Barbra Sireisand in Funny Girl. was then performed by Year 12 student. EltIe Saunders 112Rl. as a featured soloist. Her rendition was truly exceptional and a tribute to the song. FCttowing this spectacular performance was the Big Band which came onto the stage for two classics. Glenn Millers in the Mood and the famous Latin bossa nova The Girl from ipanema. in the Mood featured TanviKarnikj12Rj. Hannah Forbes111Wl. Serah MCCahon 112Bl. and Sarah Farnsworth 1120j and The Girl from banema featured Telita Senewiratne Purssey112Ml, Katie Ward 111Hl. and Sarah Thornpson 112Bl The next group the audience heard from was Chamber Singers. who performed three contrasting songs in three languages. They began with the beautiful operatic classic. Sous to 06me 6pais ithe Flower Duet between Lakm6 and Mallikal from Lakm6 by Dellbes. followed by a lively Spanish piece Las Am an1185. written by Stephen Hatfietd in the style of a traditional Spanish dance. and finished with the well- known song L-0-V-E by Nat 'King' Cote Following Chamber Singers. Big Band returned to the stage to play the Dave Brubeck tune. lake Five featuring soloists Etise At kinson 112Hl and Stormy Scarlett 112Rl For the conclusion of the first half. the Chamber Orchestra joined Big Band to accompany Johanna Davie 112Rlfor her performance of the timeless Nat 'King' Cole song. Untorgettab!e The performance ended in rapturous applause for her beautiful jazz voice After Intermission. Symphonic Winds began the second half of the Gala concert with an evocative performance of the Inspiration at piece. Fanfare for the Common Man. They then played a medley from the successful film.
