Coast Excursion - Year 9 Geogrophg In the middle of Term 1120/1, all students studying Year 9 Geography went to the Gold Coast. Unfortunately, it was too cold and windy to go swimming, so we studied Geography instead We were studying coastal management in class to learn how to better preserve the environment we live In. Our beaches are Australia's major tourist attraction and if they are not maintained, Australia's economy will suffer severely. After a long bus ride, we were ready to get outside and look around at Point Danger. What would usually have been a spectacular view of the beach was pretty foggy and it was hard to see anything at all! However, we were able to make some observations of the sand nourishment pipe that was pumping sand onto the beach We had a lot of fun jumping from one state to another as we
crossed the border line into New South Wales. We wrote surf reports on Burleigh Beach and tested longshore drift by throwing oranges into the water to see how long they took to travel down the beach, and which direction. A speaker from Griffith University talked to us all about beach litter and gave us some pictures showing drastic changes in the beaches around the Gold Coast area, from only a few years back to now it was very beneficial for us to see theories we had learnt in class in practice - a nice way of learning in a fun and Interesting environment
