in July a team of five Australian students including two Grammar girls - Manuri Gunawardena, and Shiney Seo - headed to Vienna to compete in the twentythird International Young Physicists' Tournament. After spending two days in Paris sightseeing and putting the final touches on our presentations we were ready to tight! The competition consisted of teams from 25 different countries. Between 'physics lights', we visited several famous sites such as MeIk Abbey and SobaUaburg Castle. The Australian team received a silver medal. We all had an absolutely amazing experience, meeting students from all around the world who share our interests. SOD amylg CSluney> Sec 1.8
^ Australia The School hosted the eighth unT Australia Challenge. This prestigious competition ran over two days, with teams from across Australia competing for a place on the international unT Australian team. This year the Girls Grammar team comprised, Manurei Gunawardena, Shiney Beo and Bachel Golbran. Each girl was required to investigate and give a 18-minute presentation on their selected physics problems, and then defend their research in a Isminute 'Physics Fight' with the opposition. The team performed exeeUently during the competition and made the finals, narrowly placing second to Boys' Grammar. Shiney Beo and Manori Gunawardena were selected to continue on to Vienna, with Rachel Coinran as reserve, as part of the International Australian unT team. Bachel Golbrari Lain
Fourteen School teams from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore were represented at the competition this year held at The Soots College, Sydney. from Tuesday 5 October to Friday 9 October. Girls Grammar's team comprised Tanvi Kamik (10R), Heather Hunt (IOH), Geraldine Matchews (10M) and Abbey Morgan-Short 00G) and was led by MPS J Zealand and Mrs a 016mot. The girls had conducted their research for many months before the event and continued to work hard at the tournament demonstrating wonderful teamwork. The team improved throughout the week and performed particularly well in the last round where they placed second.
