Visual Art Art Walks are hosted by the Visual Art Department and are held once a term, normally on a Saturday. This year our walks have focused on three spectacular exhibitions held at the Gallery of Modern Art in Southbank. During Term I we visited the sixth Asia Pacific Triennal. The APT features works by contemporary artists from the Asia - Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand. Four speakers selected a single work to speak about, providing a springboard for lively group discussion. During Term 11 the art staff hosted a guided tour of the Ron Mueok Exhibition. Mueek's sculptures of human forms, through posture, realism and scale, reveal much about our current consciousness and culture. Often naked and suspended in states of introspection or deep contemplation, these figures express both emotional and physical states of exposure. Shifting to high fashion, Art Walk for Term 111 was a special morning tour through the Valentino Retrospective. Here, Madame Thornquist provided an moralDating commentary on various haute couture items. The Valentino coneetion features geometric patterns and graphic prints, the skitful use of fabric to create dramatic silhouettes and, of course, the distinctive palette of black, white and 'Valentino red'. Art Walks are designed to involve the whole Grammar Community in a wide range of art experiences. MB B D'orean, 00.0, ,,*tintor

Art Workshops have again been hosted by the Visual Art Department and have provided an opportunity for students to have an extracurricular art experience. The Term I workshop entitled Fashion: Design Your Own Inspiration Board was conducted by guest tutors Jaeinta Apelt and Madeline Roberts who are studying fashion at QUT and are past students, This was the second time they had conducted this workshop and again it was funy subscribed. Another very popular workshop was Screen Printing on Fabric facilitated by Brisbane artist Nanoy Brown. The final workshop of the year was conducted by Brisbane's Reverse Garbage. The workshop not only involved the creation of unusual works of art from recyclables but drew the students' attention to issues around sustainability and the uses of discarded material.
