Woolcock House
Little things can make a big difference
With inspiration from our mascot Woodstock, we believe that little things can make a big difference. It is with this in mind that every girl contributed her own personal best to Woolcock House in 2005. Our House came first in the Relay Cup and generally displayed real commitment in every event at the Interhouse Swimming Competition. Elliane Varghese (10W) must be commended for her outstanding show of devotion by swimming not only her own races but the races of others when they were unable to compete. Her performance is an excellent example of what we value in Woolcock House. We had two representatives in the top three best
Interview with past student Ann-Marie Brady (1999) What was your first day in Year 8 as a Woolcock girl like?
On my first day the Woolcock Year 12s of 1995 welcomed my House Group to Brisbane Girls Grammar School in such a friendly way. We were all given lollies and yellow pens to start out the school year. Even though I was scared to be starting at a new school, I had two friends from my primary school in Woolcock House with me and we became friends with the other Woolcock Year 8s very quickly. Describe what your House Group was like in one sentence? After five years together we all got along well and had a lot of good times together. What was your favourite House activity? I always liked the crazy fun with all the Woolcock girls at the House Party. We got dressed up in a lot of yellow, played silly games and ate heaps of food. As Woolcock Captains for 2005, we are so proud of the Woolcock girls for their involvement in all the
swimmers of their age group – Emily Challen (12W) and Peta Masters (10W) – both of whom deserve congratulations for their excellent swimming. Our Head of House, Ms Bolton, stepped up to the challenge and participated in the life-saving relay which set a brave example for the entire House to follow. As always the girls wore as much yellow as possible and spent the day yelling and screaming Woolcock war cries to show their support of each other.
House events this year and are glad to have led such a dedicated and fun group of girls.
