Gibson House
On Thursday 24 February 2005, Gibson celebrated our annual House Party. This event incorporated lots of games, dancing, singing and of course, lots of purple! The excitement of the House Party was the impetus for the exhilarating atmosphere of the Interhouse Swimming Competition the following day. At Chandler, Gibson House united to participate in the first Interhouse event of the year. The Year 12s introduced a new war cry at the House Party entitled “Gibson Girl” which encouraged spirit, support and solidarity for all swimmers. This inevitably translated into Participation was the key to success
As our time in Gibson House draws to a close, the Year 12s would like to thank the many people who have contributed to our happiness and success over the past five years. Firstly we would particularly like to acknowledge and show our appreciation to Mr Holley who guided us as our Head of House for four years. Also, we would like to thank the other House Group Teachers who have been an integral part of Gibson House in 2005; Mrs Dabelstein, Mrs Gowalska-Loye, Mrs Lazar and Mr Laur. A special thanks to Ms Euler who has become an admirable Head of House. We would like to wish the best of luck to the current Gibson girls for their remaining years in Gibson House. At Open Day this year Gibson continued to support World Vision by sponsoring Sifundza Vusi from Swaziland. We have supported Sifundza for several years and helped to provide him with an education, food and shelter. The main Gibson House fundraiser which helps to support Sifundza is the strawberries and ice-cream stall on Open Day. This year as usual, our Year 11s had the huge responsibility of organising, setting up and running the stall. Much of the success of this venture can be attributed to the hard work of these girls. With our location beside the Stage Lawn, it was a great atmosphere for all of the girls to work in and for parents to buy some strawberries and enjoy the music!
fantastic performances by all Gibsonites and at the end of the day we swam away with first place. Participation was the key to our success; however, special commendation must go to Emily Young (11G) and Lauren Humphrey (12G) for achieving a place in their respective Age Championships. Thanks must also go to our Sports Captains Jane O’Sullivan (12G) and Rebecca Buckland (12G) for their tireless efforts in organising this event.
