Chessboard of Greatness

Is life patterned purpose? Neatly dovetailed, defined squares, Predestined scheme of greatness, God’s white gloved hand guiding, Players across the chessboard of life. Black and white predictability, Privileging outcomes, Born great, greatness achieved, Thrust into greatness. Is life patterned purpose, Or random splatterings? Greatness for a single move. Tight black and white squares, Seeping, weeping, flowing, With life’s realities,

Aspirations

Little girl with aspirations; Little girl she stands so tall; Tiny girl, huge imagination! Her hope and joy inspires us all.

Blending into grey nothingness. Born great, greatness achieved, Thrust into greatness. Luck, chance, capricious chessboard moves. Smooth rounded Pawn, Strong equine Knight, Supreme stylised Queen, Greatness grows from surrendering self, Serving simply. Born great, greatness achieved, Thrust into greatness. Slowing infiltrating hearts and minds of others. Kindness, compassion, love, Selflessness. Rachel Ferris (11R)

Oblivious to the world beyond her; The trauma, tragedy, triumph and glee; Blind to the sorrow that surrounds her; She smiles, she dances as joyful as can be.

Day by day our souls perish, Our hearts cry and our minds weep,

But she continues the moments we cherish, Possessing the happiness it is hers to keep.

Time has snuck up on us before we’re ready To bid mournful goodbye; The burden on our shoulders has been so heavy But she smiles with the wisdom and strength of new life. And that little girl still has aspirations; That little girl still stands so tall; That tiny girl with her huge imagination, Her hope and joy have inspired us all. Laura White (9W)
