Interact
Grammar Practice Firm
Interact is a Rotary sponsored service club within the School that raises awareness of needy causes and provides the opportunity for students to participate in community service projects. With more than fifty student members from all Year levels, Interact conducted a number of fundraising activities this year, among them a cake stall at the Interhouse Swimming Competition and the now famous chocolate dipped strawberry and marshmallow kebab stall on Open Day. The Club raised over $2000 this year for Interplast, a non-profit organisation which provides free reconstructive surgery for needy children and adults in developing countries, and Médicins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), a non-profit international humanitarian organisation which provides emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics and disasters, regardless of

Mooting
The simplest way to describe ‘mooting’ is ‘the oral presentation of a legal issue or problem’. There are no surprise witnesses, dramatic trials or cries of “objection!”, and the argument is based on logic and existing case law and legislation. The Bond University High Schools Mooting Competition gave Olivia Tunnell (12W) and Elizabeth Talbot (12R) the opportunity to plead a case before a mock Court of Appeal. Olivia and Elizabeth had only a few weeks to prepare their argument, which was to appeal the conviction of a woman who had disrupted proceedings in Parliament. Miss Dufty (Mooting Co- ordinator, law graduate and unofficial third team member) guided Olivia and Elizabeth through the legalese, court formalities, and structuring of their case. The formal presentation was held at the Court of Appeal at the Commonwealth Law Courts. Both girls were congratulated for their interaction with
The Kirsten Jack Memorial
Leukaemia Committee
This year the Kirsten Jack Memorial Leukaemia Committee (KJMLC) has continued to raise awareness of leukaemia within the Grammar community. To this end, the KJMLC has run several fundraisers throughout the year such as roses on Valentine’s Day, ‘guess the lollies’ competition and an ‘ice-cream spider’ stall on Open Day. These events have met overwhelming support from the Grammar community andwere extremely successful. In addition, the Committee had the pleasure of raffling a beautiful print kindly donated by the Jack Family in loving memory of former Brisbane Girls Grammar School student, Kirsten Jack.
Although the KJMLC enjoys the membership of students from across all year levels, the majority of the Committee are from Year 12. Their
