Surveying the Land - 12 Mathematics A

In a refreshing change from our normal classroom environment, the "Surveying the Land" unit allowed the Year 12 Mathematics A students to apply their new found knowledge of chain surveying practically. Laden with rods, string, measuring tape and a sighting board, we met at the clothing pool lawn, endeavouring to complete something we had Yearned to do since Year 8 - a scale diagram of the features of the clothing pool lawn This experience not only provided us with an interactive learning experience, it also highlighted what the Mathematics Department has been emphasising throughout our High School Years - that Mathematics is more than just learned theory- it is a life skill that can successfully be applied to everyday situations
