Under the everwatchful eve of our fearless mascot, the Purple Phantom, the year 2002, complete with action- packed events. excitement, and the phantabulous House breakfasts jinmmm pancakesI. was certainly one that will be remembered. From the introduction of our Friday buddy-group roll calls, to the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm in all inter house events throughout the Year, Gibson girls came together to prove we are a force to be reckoned w'th First Term began with the introduction of a whole new generation of Gibsonites. the 'Purple Warriors Orientation Day gave the Year 125 a chance to introduce the new Year 85 to the Gibson spirit, and at the first House Assembly they were sworn in with the Phantom Oath. a traditional pledge to our idol. the Phantom. The House Party that followed tested their purple-ness against the other year levels. with games to be won and much, much food to be eaten. The Miss Gibson competition was fierce. with Samantha MDynihan IYear 101 grabbing the prize with her amazing performance. and Clare Collyer ryear 81 winning the prestigious Miss Phantom Phashion award for her purple ensemble. The creative Year 95 won the war cry competition and a brand new war cry was added to the 11st for 2002 - 'We Will Rock You I This war cry was tested against the other Houses during the Interhouse Swimming competition, an event which left the other Houses in awe of the phantastic Gibson spirit Clad In every type of purple clothing jinaginable, Gibson strutted their stuff, coming fourth overall, with special mention going to Emily Young in Year 8 and Danielle Gregory in Year 11. for their amazing swims The Inter house Drama, 'Sticks and Stones' was performed the very next week, under the talented direction of Emily Rowe and Kavita Paw. The lively cast. consisting of most of the House, was instrumental in creating an enthusiastic and professional production. it was indeed an amazing performance, with Gibson earning a credible bronze level award. Another
exciting event followed not long after, with our 'Purple Warriors' showing off their newfound volleyball skills and coming a close second in the Year 8 Inter house Volleyball competition In keeping with tradition, Gibson continued its fundraising for The Royal Children's Hospital. The entire House collected toys and chocolates and on the last week of First Term a group of Gibsonites, from every Year level. visited the hospital to distribute the gifts. This is a wonderful Easter tradition and really rewarding for all involved Term Two began with the Interhouse Cross Country where the Gibson runners, decked out in their best purple gear, powered along the course. leaving the other Houses in their wake Phantastic runs from Annelise Kerr In Year 8, Sigi Mewing in Year 9. Eininie Willism the Under 16 age group, and our own phantastic Sports Captain, Annabelle Matthews. helped gain Gibson House an amazing first place The Year 125 also ran a Jelly baby fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which raised over $1000, the second biggest school contribution to that charity in Queensland The Inter house Ergo competition was exciting. with the Gibson competitors rowing into second place with the help of deafening cheering from the rest of the House. Gibson also performed well in the Inter house Gymnastics competitions, with a phantastic performance in the Artistic competition and coming a brilliant first place in the Rhythmic competition, thanks to our captains Claudia Jackson, Claire Corones and Lauren Jones The beep test was the last, but perhaps the most strenuous event of the term, with our incredibly fit
gear. Support was amazing as every Gibsonite cheered their loudest, threw their highest, jumped their furthest and ran their hardest, bringing the House to a great fourth place. Special mention must go to Lara Ulasowski for her third place in the Year 11 Age Championship, and Sigi Mewing for being the Year 9 Age Champion. Our inspiring Year 12 relay team - Sally Douglas, Annabelle Matthews. Georgina Matthews and Claire Corones - have been together for the past five years and must also be congratulated for their amazing achievements. The Interhouse Choral Competition was also a success with Gibson bringing the house down with a rendition of 'imagine: Thanks go to the captains, Kate Williams, Emily Rowe and Stephanie Hood for their patience and organisation Kavita Paw also gave an incredible speech in the Senior Merle Weaver competition, showing us that the little things in life are just as important as the big events. We all thought she definitely gave the best performance, as did Annika Buwalda in the Junior Merle Weaver competition Without the support and guidance of many people the success of Gibson House in 2002 would not have been possible. On behalf of the House. I would like to thank our wonderful House Group Teachers, Mrs Boltman, Ms Newell, Mss Monte'th, Mr Davissen and Mrs Moore, and our tireless leader,
Mr Holley, for their amazing effort and patience throughout the Year. I would also like to thank Kristin Siemon, our House Vice Captain, along with our Sports Captains, Annabelle Matthews and Sally Douglas. for their fantastic job. Their unfailing support, enthusiasm and organizational skills were really appreciated And finally, the biggest thank You goes to my fellow Year 12s. From the first few scary days of Year 8, through the Years of fun and laughter in roll call with Mr D. and finally, to our last, stressful year as leaders of the School. we have always been there for one another. Through our five years together we have formed strong friendships that will last long after our purple clothes are put away that last time. Thank You so much for your kindness, Your advice, your support and Your friendship So. as the Year draws to a close, all Gibsonites can be content with the thought that each girl has g'ven her utmost support to the House in 2002 This has definitely been a Year to remember and thanks to all of you for making our last Year so special. As the Year 125 of 2002 say their last goodbyes, we wish next Year's Seniors all the best. Good luck to Gibson House in 2003 and beyond
