The year 2000 - a new millennium, the turn of the century, Brisbane Girls Grammar's 125th Birthday, and ... the rise of the mighty Redbacks! With style, spirit and skill every Grimth girl has made her redback mark this year. Similar in form to our much loved mascot, Regina Redback, all House members have experienced the sense of belonging to the Grimth body, whilst branching out on various 'limbs' to participate, succeed and have fun as an individual. Grimth House has had much success this year, displaying its members' talents and fun-loving attitudes in every arena of the school community. The achievements of Grimth, at the various Inter house events this year, is indicative of the unfailing enthusiasm of the students. The year began with a big bang. The Grimth House Party was a great way to start off the year, and particularly to welcome the eager new faces of the bubbly Year 85. An abundance of very red-looking girls eagerly watched and participated in the inaugural Ms Redback competition and in the games played later in the afternoon. A special mention must go to the talented Year 125 who finally won the hearts of the adjudicators. Following a great performance of "Here's to you, Ms O'SUIlivan!the teachers felt somewhat obliged to declare them as the winners. Grimth excelled in the arts this year, with the performance of 'The Wind in the Willows' being a hit at the Inter house Drama Competition in Term One' Led by the very capable A1ison Milner and Jane Stafford, the Griffith cast did

a greatjob of performing. The main characters were very dedicated and worked just wonderfulIy in such challenging roles, and the backstage crew were most efficient with the creative costuming and make-up for the actors' Such team efforts were continued in the latter part of the year, when the Grimth girls sang their way to success at the Inter house Choral Competition. Ursula Sevil and Katie Cameron conducted a memorable medley of Carpenters songs which gained the House an equal second placing. The skill of pianist Pip Davies and the amazing talent of our five soloists was a lovely touch to the performance. A third placing in the Swimming competition in March was another highlight of the year, with swimming sensations, Jessica Moles and Laura Whish, leaving the very bright and loud Grimth supporters in awe. The cheering was accompanied by some very good looking porn-porns and headscarves that really helped the girls getinto the spirit of things. The cheering was also evident at the Athletics Carnival. A special thank you must go to Francesca Wardell who was Grimth's loudest and most enthusiastic cheerer this year. On Athletics day, runner Kate Leitch made her mark, blitzing her rivals in all of her events. Similarly, Jessica Moles, Grimth Sports Captain, was outstanding in the field events. There were many wins on the day CUIminating in Grimth gaining yet another runner-up position. Much fun was had on Athletics day as well, with girls who not only ran, but skipped, jumped and cart- wheeled along the track! At the Cross Country the Year 8 competitors werejust wonderful, breaking the Griffith record for participation. Although very tiring, this was also a fun event for everybody. This year there have been many wonderful achievements by Grimth girls extending to the national level. Lindsay MCGrath in fencing, Eliza Gower in rhythmic gymnastics, Jessica Moles in water polo and Jusveer Rakhra and Sophie Ferris in physics, have represented Australia in their respective fields of interest. We are all very proud of them. The immense success of this year may be attributed to the enthusiasm of all Grimthians. As well, the hard work and team effort of 12 Grimth has been just phenomenal. They have worked closely with our very dedicated Head of House, Ms O'SUIlivan and House Group Teacher, Mrs Geraghty, to achieve what we could only dream of, for our final year at BGGS. The year 2000 has been one of enormous success, but more importantly, one of fun, friendship and fond memories.
