2000 School Magazine

After the enormous success of our School Music CD, Expressions '98, which won the 1998/99 14th Queensland Sunnie Award for the best school CD, Term Three saw the recordings for a second CD, which we are sure will be equally successful. This exercise allowed the girls to experience the process of professional music recordings, which although time-consuming, undoubtedly proved rewarding with the excellent quality of the final product. The past year has also seen the great development of the School's Chamber Music Program, consisting of numerous wind, string and other instrumental chamber groups. Our String Quartets have had the opportunity to perform at various school and non-school related functions, including The Lilley Oration, the OlympicTorch Procession through the City's Botanical Gardens, and the International Schools Conference. The Chamber Choir has also performed at various events, including the Memorial Service for the Centaur, and the School's 125th Anniversary Dinner, which also featured the Big Band. Who will ever forget Mr Holley and the way he managed to get 800 guests at the dinner to sing! it has definitely been a wonderful year for BGGS musicians and as the Music Captains of 2000, we have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of such a great music program. Thanks go to Mrs Hancock for her continued support of the Music Department, to all the Music Staff, to the dedicated parents of the Music Support Group and to all the girls who made this year such a fantastic display of musical talent and appreciation. We are sure that Grammar musicians will continue to play an important role in the life of the school and we wish you all the best of luck for the performances and years to come!!
