Drama Club
rama Club has been active within B. G. G. S. for several scribbled on the blackboard of CH215. The ITls s mint small years, harnessing the talents of students from Grades groups and put together a series of short dramatic Ieces
Eight to Twelve. Drama Club is a non-audition group which offers all students the opportunity to perfect their skills in acting, directing or any of the creative arts. Students are free to explore their creative talent in a fairly relaxed environment and are encouraged to exploit this freedom of expression which is not always possible in conventional drama classes 1998 has been a particularly successful year for Drama Club with months of workshops, theatre sports and co-ordinating of ideas CUIminating in our major production in term four. The theme of this year's production focusing on women through the ages was originally based on an idea from Sophie Chapman which was then honed by her fellow Drama Club members Creative contributions and criticisms were offered by all of the girls in the group until the triumphant moment when the framework of our production could be seen before us, roughly
depicting one or more periods in history when the role of women was of particular interest. The focuses of the pieces which the girls created ranged from Oscar Wilde to "Othello", from Medieval England to "My Fair Lady". Unable to narrow our interests, neither could we fit our heroines to a set mould, choosing femmes fatales from Coco Chanel to Madonna to represent contemporary ideals of womanhood. Under the guidance of Katrina Torenbeek whose taskitis to focus the mass of raw talent within the B. G. G. S. Drama Club, it was possible to realise our vision of semi-evolved men at the mercy of a bew of brainy beauties, this vision being the brainchild of Garnin Gahan of Year Eleven. Everyone worked together incredibly well with members from the senior grades able to offer guidance to the younger members of the group.
