Social Studies Faculty Day On Friday 1 August, students from the Social Studies Faculty were involved in a range of activities including a UN Youth Forum, World City Fair and lectures from prominent members of the community.
World City Fair A visit from British Royalty (including the royal corgi); a guided tour through Paris; a fashion parade from Rome featur- ing the latest Versace fashion; grammy awards from Los Angeles
No celebration of cultural diversity would be complete, however, without some involvement of the tastebuds - cuisines from around the world, ranging from English scones with jam to Indian curries, were displayed and consumed with grea t relish.
and Frank Sinatra crooning 'New York New York' during a Broadway production! These were only some of the colourful and entertaining activities that Year Eight Social Studies stu- dents were engaged in during the inaugural World City Fair staged in the auditorium.
The best costume prize went to 8C's artist and his models and this was presented by the Mayor of Paris (Mrs Basford) who presided over the Fair. All students made this activity fun and informative. What better way to learn about history, culture and geography of the world's mega-cities than to bring them together in a World City Fair.
Each Year Eight class, representing a leading world city studied in class , not only provided their peers with a 'cultural experience' of their city via costumes, music and drama, but they also mounted an information display in the form of posters, photographs and video. These displays lined the walls of the auditorium and formed the backdrop for most of the day's activities.
