GIBSON
0 nee, deep in a purple jungle, there lived a man. This man was loved and respected by his people for his courage, kind- ness, intelligence and athleticism. He was the Phantom - the Ghost who walks. These amazing qualities live on today in the Phantom's team from the purple jungle - Gibson House.
presentation.Although we were not placed first, our trademark spirit was once again obvious with a cho ir of seventy-seven people . This is truly amazing as we were the largest choir and provided a very crowd- pleasing performance. Our debating team, captained by Susanna Siegal, was also very

successful. Gibsonites from Years Eight to Twelve battled their way into the semi-finals where they were narrowly defeated. This was yet another phantastic performance. Gibson once again embarked on our annual Easter visit to the Royal Children's Hospital. All Gibsonites who attended this Easter egg delivety realised how worthwhile it was. The looks of delight on the children's faces said it all. Gibson continues to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital and the Queens- land Cancer Fund through house group fundraising ventures and School Day. Our year 's highlights
Gibson's start to 1997 was one of style and spirit with the annual Gibson House party. This afternoon of shaving cream, ice-cream, rain, food and fun was most enjoyable and the spirit of Gibson members was evident. The much coveted Miss Gibson crown was won;by Lauren Mcivor, a very enthusiastic Year Eight who dazzled all Gibsonites with her phantastic purple performance. Purple·power was in full force at every interhouse sporting
event with phantabulous cheering. New shakers and cheerleading outfits made their debut this year, help- ing to add colour and style. Whether running, jumping, splashing, tumbling or vault- ing, all Gibsonites demon- strated their sporting prow- ess . Our placing in these events continues to im- prove, with fourth place in the swimming, third in both the artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and an ex- tremely close second place (by 5.5 points) in the Athlet- ics Carnival. This demon- strates the superhuman tal- ents of our team from the
have been faithfully re- corded on Video and our Web Site, involving much time and commitment from Yan Cheng and Debbie Shellshear. We are also grateful for the efforts of our editorial team, headed by Julie Young and Zoe Yule, for producing our popular Phantom Files through the year. 1997 has been a truly enjoyable, rewarding and successful year for Gibson House. This success would not have been possible with-
out the support of all the Grade Twelves, especially the House Seniors, and all the house group teachers , Miss Patton, Mrs O'Neill, Mrs Hadgraft, Ms Mecklem and Mrs Wain . Continuing staff support from Mr Davissen, Mr Blundell and Mrs Kiolle has also been much appreciated. Special thanks go to two very special people for all their effort, firstly, to Mrs Wain, who has been so supportive of all the Gibson Seniors and finally to the most phenomenal phantom of them all , Mrs Kimber. Good luck to all Gibsonites for next year, especially the Year Elevens . I hope your year is as phabulous and phantastic as ours. ELIZABETH WATT HOUSE CAPTAIN
purple jungle. Thank you to our wonderful Sports Captains, Kate Miller and Alex Craig, for their superb organisation of these events. Many of our budding actors took to the stage in the lnterhouse Drama festival. Directed by our House Drama Captains , Francesca Gasteen and Rebecca Zavelsky, "A Very Black Comedy Indeed" was a great success. This comical play created many laughs and all involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves. One of the most memorable events in 1997 was the Interhouse Choral Competition. Choral Captain,Eliza Matthews, conducted (or should we say danced!) Gibson's massive choir for "I Will Survive". Vice-Captain, Majella McMahon, and accompanist, Kate Thomas, ably assisted in our rehearsals and
