CARTOONll^G OR LAMPOONING:

e were most fortunate to enlist the services of Sean Leahy to act as our CRITIC IN RESIDENCE demon- strating that the "anime" pen is often mightier than the sword Have you ever wondered how a political cartoonist derives his ideas and translates them into those funny little pictures that appear in your paper every morning? How many of you turn to the "comics" and cartoons in the

morning or weekend papers? Is comedy humour a more ef- fociive medium for making a point than a page of tightly writ- ten text? Have you ever had problems understanding a car- toon? Do you ever wish you could draw good cartoons? What makes for a

good cartoon? What makes people laugh? How does a car- toonist create a cari- cattire of someone? What would your own caricature look like? and why do we never see any FEMALE cartoonists? These and many more were some of the questions that Sean attempted to answer for us ... and left us to ponder in the next morning issue of me Co"tier M"it, IlylA'IRS group of our Year 12 Maths U students have been responsible for designing a lifting hoist to be donated to

The success of the afternoon ensures that this has now become a permanent event in future years ... with the sugges- lion that we might form our own UN association at the school JOHN WALSH HEAD OF SOCIAL STUDIES FACULTY
