1993 School Magazine
Originally Julianne wanted to draw a picture of Eddie from "The Terminator" but settled on a portrait of her friend instead. Her chosen medium was supplemented with aquarelle pencil work to add detail and contrast. As a result of her win- ning, the school was presented with a set of Art Encyclopaedias and Julianne received a $25 prize of Art Materials and a 2 volume set of The Encyclopaedia Brittanica Dictionary.

Julianne Chambers
Julianne aspires to a career in Art as an Architecture Artist or as a worker in an art related field. She believes entering coin- petitions is a good encouragement for those interested in art. We wish Julianne future success with her art endeavours, both at school and in the wider community. KATHERINE KIM Katherine Kim (11 Lilley) won first prize in the Senior A Division at the National Finals of the 22nd Japanese Language Speech Contest, held in Melbourne on Sunday, 5th September 1993.
ISObel Royston
Competing against over a thousand students of French throughout Australia to reach this level is a commendable effort. JULIANNE CHAMBERS Julianne Chambers was the winner of the 13 - 15 year age group watercolour section at the RNA. Show this year. Julianne is in Year 8 Hirschfeld. She was born in Hong Kong, moved to Melbourne when she was three and then settled in Brisbane. Julianne has been interested in art from an early age and has always drawn for pleasure. She particularly enjoys drawing people and faces and hates drawing shoes. She is self-taught although her mother, who is also interested in art, often offers her advice and help. Julianne's favourite medium to work with is pencil. Julianne entered the competition because she had seen the work in previous years and thought it was of a high standard and decided she would have a go herself. The inspiration for her watercolour was a photograph of her friend Phoebe.
Katherine Kim
Katherine competed against six State prize winners to win a return air ticket to Japan, courtesy of Japan Airlines and a half airfare for an accompanying parent. This is only Katherine's third year of studying Japanese and she is to be congratulated on such a prestigious win. Katherine follows in the footsteps of Ingrid Hadgraft who won in 1992 and who is currently at our sister school Matsusaka for nine months. iai' ^. 6@'
